West Siiiiide
After kickin some serious booty on my final (or so I
thought) and mid-term, I headed down to Orlando to stay the night at Doug and Barb’s (Joe’s Dad and step-mom). Woke
up around 0600 to get ready and head to the airport, but one thing was missing my free ticket vouchers. Whoops. I
left them in a folder that I was supposed to put back in my book bag; I must’ve got sidetracked by some flashing lights
or something. To make a long story short, I called up Doug, he picked me up and brought me back to the house, I drove up
to Gainesville (though I did spend an hour parked on the turnpike because of an accident), grabbed my free ticket vouchers
and drove back down to O’Town (Orlando, not the best group of all time like you are probably thinking). Woke up again
(recited like when Forrest Gump was mentioning his trip to the White House), went to the airport, but this time actually
got on the plane.
The plane ride was easy enough. I met a detective from the LAPD, which was pretty cool. In fact, he even gave me his card
and said that anytime I was in the area to give him a call and I could stay with him. Very, very cool guy…actually reminded
me of my dad (my real dad that is, Lee). Landed in Albuquerque, boarded the plane, talked to Sonny, the lead singer of P.O.D.
while he was standing up next to my seat (the whole band was on the plane). They had a show in Portland with Tommy Lee, Papa
Roach and some other bands. Joe, Skye, and Ace picked me up in the Jeep (top off…on the Jeep that is) and we headed for the
zoo to get tickets for the Keb Mo show later that evening. Got the tickets and headed back to the apartment where we proceeded
to do what we do best…drink. So we got absolutely wasted and went to the grocery store to get some picnic type things for the
concert. There were free samples galore and let me tell you the guacamole was phenomenal. I talked to as many people as I
possibly could just because I was wasted and that’s what I do. I almost ended up feeding some girl lemon cake, Skye, the sober
one, stopped me. Oh well. After that we went to the show which was absolutely amazing. I proceeded to corrupt some little 6-year
old who absolutely admired me. I didn’t give him any of our whiskey or anything like you might be thinking I just told him to
stay away from girls and make sure that his mom always had Kool-Aid and Snack-Paks for his lunch. After the show we went back to
the apartment. I forget what happened after that but I think we just went to sleep (“Did you fall asleep or did you pass out?”).
The next morning Skye left for work, and the fellas stayed home and did what was to be the usual for the whole vacation…played
N64 (Bond/MarioKart), caps, any other drinking game we could think of, and plenty of visits to Baghdad (our nickname we gave to
the toilet). When Skye got home we were well on our way to being obnoxious. Went over to Matt and Leanne’s place, had some BBQ,
played adult sorry and put a few spins on caps to make us get even more drunk quicker. Polluted and full we went back home to pass
out.
Tuesday was an all-out let’s find the quickest way to get as drunk as possible. It actually started off as a constructive day. I
worked out while Joe and Ace looked for jobs, Skye already has 2 jobs and she was at one of them. So Joe and Ace call me from some
burrito place down the street and I take a little jog down there to join them. After lunch we headed home, and drank like we’ve
never drank before. Started playing Bond and everytime we got killed we had to take a shot. I don’t remember much but I know that we
finished a bottle of Jack Daniels and about ¾’s of a bottle of vodka. Then we went to Taco Bell, grubbed, gave some girls our phone #
just cause they asked then went back home and chilled out until skye came home. When skye got home we packed into the jeep and headed
to the snake and weasel for open mic night. You can read about what happened there by clicking
here. After the show we went back to the apartment, had a few more beers and passed out.
The next few days are pretty shaky, but here’s a small breakdown of what went down:
Wednesday – drank, played video games and other various drinking games all day then headed to a movie theater
where they bring you pizza and beer “What a country!” We saw “Lord of the Rings.”
Thursday – went downtown to the biggest used bookstore in the nation, ate lunch at a little strip where they make food out of the back
of trailers, came home, polished off a case then went to the baseball game where they had $1 beers. We had about 12 each. We were
bombed and heckling anything that moved.
Friday – because of the night before we weren’t able to start drinking until noon. After we had a few in us we felt a little better so
started playing video games and such. Felt bad because it was pouring down rain and Skye had the Jeep (no top…on the Jeep that is), so
we cleaned up the place and made dinner, then went and rented some DVDs (Orange County, The Majestic, and Kate and Leopold), and of course
got more beer, which by now we were averaging about a case per day for each of us. After watching Orange County we started playing cards,
darts and the grand finale…Trivial Pursuit.
Saturday – an absolutely gorgeous day, but that didn’t stop us from staying in and drinking all day. Skye also made us breakfast around 2.
We also went to Jack In The Box to have some tacos, then to Matt and Leanne’s to take care of the cats. After that we went home and drank,
go figure.
Sunday – woke up, packed and left for the airport around 11:30. Now I’m at about 37,000 feet 40 miles north of Dallas. I’m expected to land
in Orlando at a little before 11 then drive back up to Gainesville. I don’t expect anything spectacular to happen.
All in all it was a wonderful vacation. More of a relaxing and drinking all day vacation then running around trying to see all the sights.
It fit the 4 of us perfectly cause we’re just laid back like that. Leaving them though I wonder when the next time our paths will cross,
seeing how I will actually graduate this time. We shall see. Special thanks to Joe, Skye, Ace, Matt and Leanne.
